Hello Kelly looking to record new album using Kickstarter.com
Francois Goudreault Jr., the lead singer of Canadian Christian rock band Hello Kelly, posted this on Facebook today: “Reading this morning, got a little revelation about worship. Thought I’d share for those who are interested. The consumption attitude of worship warps our perspective. If we see worship as a glass of water to consume, there is a beginning and end, a small glass vs. a big glass. We always need to come back for more when we are dry. No, worship should be like an IV. No start, no end; a constant flow. No need to ever fill back up; we stop worrying about all that taking and get to enjoy the act of giving. Lets ask ourselves every day: God, where are you in this moment? What are you doing? How can I be a part of it?”
Hello Kelly has three days left to raise funds to record a new album, using kickstarter.com. Here’s what the band said about that, online:
“Sometimes being in a band can make you feel like clowns. This Summer, we posted an interview on YouTube; it was the first time Francy ever talked about his stutter on camera. Since then, he’s learned how much of a privilege it is for him to be a voice for ‘Kelly’ (you guys), considering how difficult it is for him to speak. A lot about the music industry has changed, but two things have stayed the same: You want music that makes you feel something, and we want to make it for you. The bad news is that recording music costs a lot of money. And after all the cracked cymbals, flat tires and long drives to the next show, money is something we don’t have a lot of.
So where does that leave us? Well, record deals don’t always work out the way you hope they will. And ‘sleeping in the van’ loses its punk-rock-appeal after a couple tours. But even when we feel like clowns for continuing to make Hello Kelly music, we remember those times outside the venue, when you guys helped us pack up our trailer and said, ‘Don’t stop doing what you’re doing.’ We took that to heart. This next record we want to make is about how loud the world is, and how frustrating it can be when you’re in the middle of it, with something to say, something you believe in. Musically and lyrically, this record is going to be more raw, passionate and provocative than anything we’ve ever done before. Instead of asking you to buy our new record after it’s done, we’re asking you to buy it BEFORE it’s done.
We’ve decided to set our goal a little higher than we originally planned, because we have faith in YOU. Your pledge will go towards paying our hard-working producers, getting the record mixed, renting the studio, designing the artwork, manufacturing, promoting to radio, tour expenses, etc. As a very humble thank you for your contribution, you’ll get a free download of the record and your name will be in the liner notes. We’re also offering sweet additional perks to you guys, depending on how much you pledge. Next time you’re in line at McDonalds, consider supporting us instead. You’ll get something you can keep forever, instead of, well, McDonalds. We’re not just asking you to help us make a record. We’re asking you to be a part of this record. So if we reach our goal, please don’t stop pledging! The tricky part is that if we don’t reach our goal by Jan 19, 2012, Kickstarter will then refund everybody’s pledges and we won’t get anything. It’s an all or nothing scenario. We know that you work hard for your money and that there are more important causes out there. But if you’ve got any money kicking around, if one of our songs has ever made you feel something, please consider helping us out! It’ll keep us going. Being Happy Klowns is OK. But being Hello Kelly is way better. Thank you!! -Francy, George, Ben and Travis”
